Mentor’s latest cash offer was accepted today by the board at Flomerics.
It’s likely that the Flomerics CEO and vocal staff will not make the transition into Mentor.
I can see how the Mentor sales team could sell the Electronics Cooling tools, maybe even some of the Engineering Fluid Dynamics tools, but not the Building Heating and AC tools. Perhaps we’ll see a spin-out of the latter tools because they just don’t fit EDA.
For grid, manycore, or cloud computing applications the system enclosure is a room, floor, or a building. IBM’s Blue gene http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/deepcomputing/bluegene/ platform may be a harbinger; Cisco’s Terabit routers can scale to many racks, see http://www.cisco.com/go/12000 for the rack-level building blocks.
Flomeric’s HVAC tools may be more applicable to system designers than you might first think.
