Virtual Platforms Accelerate RISC-V SoC Software Development
The design freedoms of RISC-V offer systems and SoC developers new flexibility to build domain specific processors, optimized for the requirements of the target application and domain. This is driving the growing adoption of RISC-V, however, software is still needed on these new platforms. This could be entirely new software, or porting legacy applications, firmware, libraries and operating systems to the RISC-V platform. Virtual platforms, or software simulation, can accelerate software tasks by providing an environment for software development, debug and test many months before silicon is available. While virtual platforms do not replace hardware-based testing of the software, the early availability, ease of automation, controllability and observability are making virtual platforms a must-have for embedded software development.
